Anna Family Store is a hidden gem

Hello, Winnipeg East!
While it is sad to see our little newspapers disappear, I couldn’t be more excited to share stories from our corner in East Kildonan with a larger audience. There are hidden gems where we live and it is true that sometimes there is a reluctance to disclose their whereabouts for fear of losing their charm.
However, you should all be familiar with the Anna Family Store, located at 755 Henderson Hwy.
I interrupted Anna Nabrzeska for a busy period a few days before Christmas. Some customers were asking for uszka, a Polish perogy usually filled with wild mushrooms.
“We like to eat them with red borscht,” said Anna, “it’s our tradition.”
This winter, stop by Anna’s to warm up with homemade stews, borscht, meats and cheeses.
âWe always have something different,â said Anna. “We have a lot of capers, mushrooms, sausages … we’re a little store with a lot of stuff.”
Since opening in October 2018, Anna has increased stock in her store and it now has over 7,000 items from Winnipeg, Toronto and Europe.
“I have a lot of Russian, Ukrainian, German and Polish clients, I have clients who come from Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic; there are a lot of different nationalities who come here,” said Anna.
“They come here because they can find different things, and everything looks different here than in the department stores.”
âI have a really good feeling that my store is more popular than last year,â she said. âIt’s difficult to bring everything because a lot of products come from another continent and 8,000 kilometers from here. I want to invite everyone and say thank you to all of my clients for supporting our small business.
