While each celebrity had their own take on the 2022 Met Gala’s “Gilded Glamour” theme, many of the dress code’s signature styles had a big impact on onlookers.
According to data from Love the Sales fashion analyst Hussain Ul-Haq, there has been a surge in searches for types of clothing seen on the Met Gala red carpet.
Unsurprisingly, the style of clothing that has seen the strongest growth is corsets, which have seen a 107% increase. “Sequin dresses” also saw a surge in searches after the Met Gala, rising 66%. The style has been adopted by many celebrities, including Janelle Monáe in Ralph Lauren, Chloe Bailey in Area, Kaia Gerber in Alexander McQueen, Rachel Brosnahan in Altuzarra, and Mj Rodriguez in Moschino, among others. “Embroidered dresses” also saw a 28% increase.
For menswear, “vests” jumped 38% in fashion searches. Male attendees who have leaned into Met Gala style include Met Gala co-chairman Lin-Manuel Miranda, Elon Musk, Seth Meyers and Joshua Jackson in Gucci.
“Ruffled dresses” topped Met Gala-related fashion searches, rising 20%. The sartorial style appeared on the red carpet on Normani in Christian Siriano, Kylie Jenner in Off-White and Kendall Jenner in Prada.
