In 1952, Ted Twardjik Sr. dreamed of starting a food business inspired by his mother’s pierogi recipe. He remembered the popularity of Polish dumplings on religious holidays and believed people would be delighted to buy them in local grocery stores all year round. Later that year, Ted sold his first sample of pierogi to a local grocery store in Shenandoah, Pa., In honor of his mother, Mary Twardjik. NOT. Mrs. T-He called her company Mrs. T’s Pierogi. Almost 70 years later, Mrs. T’s pierogi is the largest producer of frozen pierogi, producing 600 million pierogi per year.
