Jaden Smith’s latest New Balance Vision Racer sneakers are his most trippy yet
Nike has Virgil Abloh, Adidas has Kanye West and New Balance is making its way to the relevance of other brands with Jaden Smith. The sneaker brand started its entanglement with Jaden last year with the launch of its vegan Vision Racer sneaker.
And while the Vision Racer might not necessarily be considered as high-profile as a Dunk or a Yeezy, Smith’s latest sneaker tweaks are arguably his best yet. Inspired by the radiant colors found in nature – and illustrations from previous and upcoming Jaden albums – two Vision Racers now feature rainbow patterns on their sturdy soles. Both styles attribute their names to the artist’s upcoming song titled “Trippy Summer”.
Trippy and dripping – The name does not come in vain: kaleidoscopic details dress the two new Vision Racer models. One pair sees a white and tan upper contrasted by an ombre blue, teal and red midsole, while the other adorns their predominantly white upper with vibrant pops of orange, green and purple.
Continuing the colorful sneaker theme, the brand takes inspiration from the ’70s. The text “Vision Racer” and “New Balance” appear on two pull tabs in a groovy and equally chunky font. Another nod to the shoe’s name surfaces underfoot, where “Vision Racer” is again written beneath a semi-translucent outsole.
Each Vision Racer, New Balance writes in a press release, is emblematic of Jaden’s desire to spread positivity and inspire change. The lifestyle shoe, featuring a sturdy, studded sole, is made from vegan leather and recycled materials to further remind Smith of Smith’s history of vegetarianism and environmental activism. Its synthetic leather upper is made from 60 percent recycled polyester, while the textile of its upper and tongue, as well as its lining and webbing are made from 100 percent recycled polyester.
You could snag the whole fit – Matching ’70s-inspired t-shirts and a hoodie are set to drop alongside New Balance’s Trippy Summer Vision Racers, marking Jaden’s first piece of clothing for the brand. Pulling from the rainbow palette of sneakers, the pieces feature a psychedelic branding.
Released on July 30 – perhaps to line up with the new music – the Trippy Summer Vision Racers are priced at $ 150 at select retailers and on the New Balance website. The styles will be joined by the Trippy Summer hoodie and t-shirt, priced at $ 90 and $ 45, respectively.
You’ll be able to grab chunky sneakers with more ease than a Dunk or Yeezy, but beware, Jaden’s iconic New Balance sneaker is getting more and more drip.
