Missing hunter found by US border patrol on Michigan island
DRUMMOND ISLAND, MI – U.S. Border Patrol officers have located a missing hunter on Michigan’s Drummond Island.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office began searching for Caro’s missing man around 6 p.m. after he failed to return to his hunting camp on Monday. He was last seen entering a wooded area near E. Bass Cove Road, south of Big Shoal Bay.
The missing hunter was eventually found unharmed and verified by Drummond EMS.
He said he fell asleep and woke up after dark. He eventually lost his way until he was found by US Border Patrol agents.
“Thank you to everyone involved in the research,” said a police statement. “The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all hunters to take a GPS or map and compass with you whenever you hunt in an area you don’t know. We also recommend that you take a fire starter, food and water with you.
The Drummond Island Fire Department also participated in the search.
