The fugitive who stole cars in Utica and Vernon is still at large
Police continue to search for a man from Utica who allegedly stole two cars yesterday.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Gregory Brown, 36, stole a car in Utica on Monday morning and crashed the vehicle at the intersection of Beaver Meadow Road and Route 5 in Vernon.
He then fled on foot to a wooded area near the crash site.
Over the next 5-6 hours, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Utica Police, and New York State Environmental Conservation Police conducted searched the wooded area but did not find it.
Authorities say Brown then stole another vehicle and returned to Utica.
Police later spotted the second stolen vehicle and saw Brown exit the car in the 1000 block of West Street in Utica.
Sheriff’s Deputies, State Police and Utica Police surrounded the building from 6:00 p.m. Monday night until 4:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The Metro SWAT team then went inside, but could not find Brown.
Brown is wanted on several felony arrest warrants. Brown, who may be armed, is now also wanted on felony charges relating to the two incidents in Utica and Vernon.
Brown is a bald black man, who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds.
