U Jadzi Warsaw – For the green thumb in Warsaw
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed absolutely everything – interpersonal relationships, the way we work, shop and eat outdoors. It proved the importance of social contact, the importance of our families and friends.
At the start, in the spring of 2020, a garden store called “U Jadzi” (at Jadzia, Jadzia being a short form of the Polish woman’s name “Jadwiga”) was not doing it, and a friend of theirs posted a dramatic post on Facebook, claiming that the store should be closed if people do not follow their usual shopping habits (see under the hashtag # pomóżJadzi – “Help Jadzia” on Facebook). The response was huge – a huge queue of Warsaw gardening fans formed outside, you had to wait around half an hour to be able to buy anything and people only came to buy one or two plants to show solidarity with the owner.
It shows how much solidarity has grown in Warsaw and that the pandemic, after all, was not so much a medical event as it was a stress test for social contacts. And we did well in this test.
“U Jadzi”, now over 100 years old and doing very well in 2021, offers a wide assortment of seasonal flowers, flower pots, garden tools, plant food and medicine and more again. Come buy flowers as a gift for a friend from Warsaw and surprise him with the story of Jadzia!
