August 4, 1986 — Four athletes from the Warsaw region won gold medals in wrestling, swimming and athletics events at the White River Park State Games here over the weekend.
Warsaw Community High School athletes Dan Moon, Rory Callaghan and Michelle Berry passed their various challenges.
Berry won the women’s 13-14 track high jump event. She also won a gold medal for a time of 16.6 in the 100 hurdles.
Callaghan won two golds and a silver in the boys 11-12 swimming division, while he won gold in the 200-metre freestyle and 400 individual medley and a silver to the 200 individual IM.
Moon won a gold medal Sunday in the advanced division of the wrestling competition. Other wrestling club finalists include Nathan Conley, silver medalist at 149.5 (advanced) and Matt Koontz, bronze medalist in advanced competition at 105 pounds. Kelly Frank finished fourth in the elite division at 154 pounds.
Vince Weirick was also competing in the intermediate division at 100 pounds.
Warsaw runner Dick Katte took first place in two events on Sunday winning the 400 and 200m in the 50-59 age group at the games.
August 5, 1985 –A dramatic evening of racing capped off the Kosciusko County Fair on Saturday night as Tony Elliott battled his way to his third sprint victory.
Elliott, in addition to the win, picked up bonus money and a nice trophy, as did Rick Stone, who picked up his first win of the year in the Limited Late Models division. Meanwhile, Harvey Hayes continues to dominate the roadrunner class, winning his eighth feature of the season.
August 6, 1974 – The 1974 4-H Queen and King, presented to a packed crowd in the Warsaw Community High School auditorium last night, are Ann Kaiser and Ralph Reiff. They were selected from five candidates for Queen and King at the 58th Annual Kosciusko County Fair. Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kaiser, Rt. 2, Milford and Ralph is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reiff, Rt. 1, Warsaw. The queen and king are selected based on their overall record in 4-H activities over the previous year.
