Warsaw man charged with fatal shooting over weekend

BENTON COUNTY, Mo.- A man from Warsaw was charged after a fatal shooting on Sunday morning,
Court documents indicate that John M. Moreno, 24, has been charged with second degree murder, two counts of felony with a weapon and first degree assault.
According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call around 5 a.m. Sunday from a man stating that a gunshot victim entered the back of his truck and yelled at him to drive. This victim has been identified as Lance M. Lyman, 28, from Warsaw.
Police said Moreno continued to shoot at the truck as it drove away. The man drove Lyman to an ambulance base where emergency crews attempted rescue measures, but Lyman died of his injuries.
Assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) SWAT team was requested by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office due to the unclear origin of the incident and the lack of staff available to respond to shooting. MPs and SWAT members responded to the shooting scene at the end of Clearwater Road near Warsaw and attempted to contact Moreno.
According to witnesses, Moreno started attacking a woman and Lyman tried to intervene. Moreno then started shooting Lyman.
